Chapter Five

Someone was shaking Archie. Slowly the darkness faded, and he opened his eyes. It took a moment for Archie to remember where he was. When he did, he tried to sit up quickly, only to be strangled by his seatbelt. The car was no longer moving, so he unclipped his belt with pleasure. Archie glanced at Adze, who was still sitting next to him.

"Sorry. I didn't realise how tired I was," he apologised.

"Nothing to be sorry about."

"Where are we?"

"Our home for the next two weeks," Adze replied.

Archie looked out the windscreen and gasped.

There standing in front of them was a beautiful, old two-story house with thatched roof, white walls, and dark wood accents. He loved it. There was a short stone fence with a small entry gate that surrounded the property, a cobbled walk leading up to the door, and flower beds sitting under the windows.

"How in the hell did you find this place?" Archie asked in awe.

"Airbnb." Adze replied.

"I love it," Archie said as he opened the door to climb out of the car and get a closer look at his home away from home. He gasped as the cold air rushed into the car the second he opened the door.

"Oi, what you go and do that for?" the complaint came from the back seat.

Archie turned to look. He'd completely forgotten all about their little stowaways.

"Sorry, guys." He climbed out and closed the door behind him.

Adze stepped out of the car and walked around so he was beside Archie. Archie leaned into his mate and wanted to sigh, when Adze wrapped an arm around him and held him close. They stood there together, just taking in the sight of their new home for two weeks.

"Thank you for this."

"You're very welcome."

They stayed like that until the cold got to be a little too much for Archie. Adze walked over to the gate and opened it. Archie followed along as they walked down the cobbled path to the front door.

"Wait here for a second," Adze told him, and Archie waited as Adze disappeared around the side of the house. He reappeared a couple of minutes later with a key in hand.

"The owners have hidden a lockbox so they can leave the key for whoever rents the place."

"That’s clever."

Adze unlocked the door, and before Archie could take a step, Adze swept him up into his arms and carried him over the threshold.

Archie laughed. "What in the hell are you doing?" he asked amid chuckles.

"Carrying my man."

"You're an idiot," Archie said but leaned in and kissed Adze on the cheek. "But I love you anyway."

"Well, that's good to know." Adze walked them into the living room and placed Archie back on his feet.

The inside of the house looked just as inviting as the outside. A large fireplace sat pride of place in the living room; a fire already laid on the hearth, ready for them to light it, with a metal grate in front to stop any sparks from escaping to the thick rug that covered the gorgeous wooden floor.
